What’s new at Gooseberry Acres Farm?

Rehab Soil & Repair Coop
FINISHED FALL 2024
Due to unfortunate circumstances, the poultry and garden growing spaces had fallen into disrepair.
In Year One, we focused on clearing brush, repairing structures and fencing, and regenerating the soil’s health with organic mulch and cover crops.
We also built three 4’ x 12’ raised beds and a greenhouse to have spaces to grow until the larger beds are ready for planting.

Open A Farm Stand
FINISHED WINTER 2024
As small producers of eggs, honey, and cottage foods, we aren’t quite ready to apply for Illinois state licensing on our ag products. To remain compliant, however, we built a farm stand on our property, which allows us the freedom to sell our eggs without requiring rigorous testing.
Quality and health standards are important to our mission, so we obtained state health department and cottage-food producing licenses.

Market Garden Expansion
Leading up to Year Two, we will build a 2,500 sq. ft outdoor food forest designed by permaculture designer Lauren Craig of Humble Hive Consulting.
The new market garden features 12 raised beds and growing spaces for vegetables, herbs, fruits, berries, and flowers. Lauren also designed fun pieces for our toddler to get involved on the farm!
We’re excited for all the new things we can grow—not to mention the chance to practice sustainability and regenerative agriculture!
